Job Stockton papers, 1869-1870.

Correspondence and related papers of Job Stockton, evidently a federal soldier based in New Orleans, La. The correspondence includes a gossipy letter from M.E. Luce concerning various female acquaintances, a possible trip Stockton may take to Cuba, and the numerous "pretty señoritas" he will likely meet on that island; a letter from Lydia I. Floyd regarding a visit Stockton has promised to make to her family in Greenport, Suffolk County, N.Y.; and a letter from George Fanning of Chicago, Ill., apparently Stockton's former place of residence, about various lovelorn young women in that city who have been pining for him since his departure. Also included in the papers are a business card for Star Oil Works of Cleveland, Oh., and Stockton's letter of application to the U.S. marshal for a postal service job in the environs of New Orleans. In the letter Stockton uses General William Tecumseh Sherman as a reference.
